“The Art of Gesture: Conducting for Performers”

This class introduces the students to the fundamentals of conducting from a performer’s perspective. We will explore the role of the conductor as a musical leader, communicator, and organizer, while learning basic physical gestures such as beat patterns, cues, entrances, cutoffs, tempo changes, and expressive shaping. Students will gain practical tools for understanding how conductors communicate with ensembles and how performers can respond more effectively to gesture, breath, eye contact, and musical intention. Open to all ages.
