Described as “possessing flamboyantly responsive, flexible and supple viola playing” (Sulzbach-Rosenberg, Germany), Sophie Arbuckle has performed extensively throughout the U.S., Cana- da, and Europe. She has appeared in many of the most prominent chamber music settings in the U.S., including Music@Menlo (CA), where she co-directed the “Young Performers Program”, and Bargemusic in New York city. Extensive chamber music appearances in Europe include St. Martin-in-the-fields (London, UK), Festival des Arcs (France), Fetes musicales de Savoie (France), Le Petit Palais (Paris, France), Mainz Kam-merorchester chamber music series (Germany) and Royal Flemish Philarmonie Chamber Music Series (Antwerp, Belgium) and numerous additional chamber music series and festivals in Bel- gium, France, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Monaco, and the channel islands. Radio broadcasts with Radio France. Solo appearances with the Belgorade Orchestra (France) and the Sudbury Symphony (Canada). Recordings with “Le Chant de Linos”.

An avid performer of contemporary music, Ms. Arbuckle has worked with such composers as Giya Kancheli and pre- miered multimedia works by Christopher Kaufman and dancer/choreographer Ann Carlson at Jacob’s Pillow and the American Dance Festival.Together with her husband, violinist Arik Braude, Ms. Arbuckle co-founded JVNY, inc., an ensemble of young professional musicians at the onset of their careers, many of whom have studied for over a decade with Mr. Braude & Ms. Arbuckle. The en- semble tours extensively on both sides of the Atlantic in prestigious venues and participates regularly in community outreach work, such as for “New Alternatives for Children”, in addition to actively mentoring the next generation of musicians (junior JVNY). For two weeks in the summers, the ensemble has had residencies in France and/ or Portugal since 2004.

Ms. Arbuckle is a jury member of the International Johannes Brahms Competition in Portschach, Austria, both in the viola and chamber music categories. She has been a visiting guest professor of viola at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal since 2016, and regularly gives masterclasses throughout Portu- gal. She is currently an artist-faculty at the Killington Music Festival in Vermont. Ms. Arbuckle’s students have served as principal violists in the New York Youth Symphony and National Youth Orchestra and have soloed with the New York Philharmonic Young People’s concerts and the Little Orchestra Society among others. Her prep students have been accepted into to such conservatories as the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, NEC and the Royal College of Music in London, among others.Ms. Arbuckle holds an M.M. degree in violin performance from the Juilliard School. Her viola mentor was Karen Tuttle. Violin studies with Sally Thomas, Josef Gingold, Arnold Steinhardt, Edith Peineman and Mauricio Fuks. Chamber music coaches includes Robert Mann, Josef Gingold & Pierre Amoyal. She plays a Ferdinando Gagliano viola made in Naples, Italy in 1783.

Ms. Arbuckle has been on the faculty of Juilliard pre-college since 2009. She resides on the UWS of Manhattan with her husband and daughter.
