Igor Tchetuev was born in Ukraine. In 1994, he won the First Prize at the Vladimir Kraïnev International Competition for Young Pianists and in 1998, he won the First Prize at the 9th Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv, where he also received the “Audience Prize.”
Since then, Igor Tchetuev has had the opportunity to perform with orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne, the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Russian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the NDR Philharmonic Orchestra of Hanover, and the National Academy of Santa Cecilia Orchestra, among others.
Among the conductors he has collaborated with are Valery Gergiev, Neeme Järvi, Günther Herbig, Semyon Bychkov, Vladimir Spivakov, Evgeny Svetlanov, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Mark Elder, Jean-Claude Casadesus, Alexandre Dmitriev, Maxim Vengerov, Justus Franz, Maxim Shostakovich, Mykola Diadiura, Günter Neuhold, and Catherine Larsen Maguire.
As a recitalist and chamber musician, Igor Tchetuev has performed at venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Festival de la Roque d’Anthéron, the Mariinsky Theatre “White Nights” Festival, Wigmore Hall in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Menton Festival, the Klavier Festival Ruhr, Salle Gaveau, the Braunschweig Classix Festival, the Chopin Festival in Paris, the Colmar Festival, the Sintra Festival, the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, and more.
Igor Tchetuev has accompanied the great bass Ferruccio Furlanetto on recital tours to La Scala in Milan, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Berlin Philharmonie, and the Opéra Garnier in Paris. A sought-after chamber music partner, he has performed with cellist Xavier Phillips, violinists Valery Sokolov, David Grimal, Fanny Clamagirand, Chloë Hanslip, Andrei Bielov, oboist Alexei Ogrintchouk, and the Szymanowski Quartet.
Igor Tchetuev has recorded a disc of études by Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, and Scriabin for the Tri-M Classics label, as well as Chopin’s Sonatas, which received critical acclaim, for Orfeo/Harmonia Mundi. He also recorded the complete sonatas of Schnittke (Caro Mitis), for which he received the “Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik” in Germany and an R10 in the Classica-Répertoire magazine in France. The sixth volume of his Complete Beethoven Sonatas was released by the Caro Mitis label. Each of these volumes has received a Diapason 5 rating, and his Appassionata is compared in the press to those of Pollini and Brendel.
Igor Tchetuev has been a professor at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne (HEMU) since 2021.
