Laurent MOLINES
Piano
Conservatoire de Toulouse –
Pôle supérieur de Toulouse (ISDAT)
Laurent Molines began his studies at the Conservatoire of Bordeaux. Very early on, he was noticed by Ada Labèque, a disciple of Marguerite Long, who encouraged him to enter several piano competitions in which he distinguished himself, notably in Barcelona and San Sebastián, Spain. He then spent a year refining his skills at the CRR of Rueil-Malmaison with Bernard Ringeissen, before entering the CNSM of Lyon, where he studied with Pierre Pontier. Three years later, he was awarded the piano prize with highest distinction.
He pursued further studies for two years at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, attending the classes of renowned masters such as Dmitri Bashkirov and Bernard Ringeissen. He then began performing regularly in recital and as a soloist. Under the baton of Aurélien Azan Zielinsky, he notably performed Rachmaninov’s Second Piano Concerto, Beethoven’s Third and Fourth Piano Concertos, as well as the Triple Concerto in Paris. At the same time, he continued his studies at the CNSM of Paris.
Appointed professor at the Conservatoire of Toulouse, he shares his time between teaching and concert performances (Salzburg, San Sebastián, Barcelona, Cáceres, Porto, Brussels, Grand Théâtre and Auditorium of Bordeaux, Halle aux Grains, Auditorium Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines and Espace Croix-Baragnon in Toulouse, Opéra de Lyon, National Archives, Salle Cortot in Paris, and festivals such as Nuits Musicales de Saint-Émilion, Orpheus and Bacchus, La Charité-sur-Loire, Piano Pic, Passe ton Bach d’abord, Tons Voisins, Festival des Arcs, Tignes, as well as national stages in Normandy, Brittany, Burgundy, and Midi-Pyrénées). He founded the Trio Vivace with Marlène Rivière and Nathalie Descamps, with whom he performs regularly. He is also the partner of many leading soloists, including Raphael Oleg, Damien Ventura, Denis Pascal, Nathanaël Gouin, Dong Suk Kang, Young Chang Cho, Jacques Delplanque, and Richard Galliano.
He is also deeply involved in contemporary music through numerous projects. In particular, he premiered Peio Cabalette’s Piano Concerto, recorded works by Dominique Prechet, premiered works by Florentine Mulsant with flutist Sandrine Tilly, and performed a two-piano work by Benjamin Atahir with Nathanaël Gouin at the Festival des Arcs.
He is regularly invited to serve on juries for national and international competitions, as well as for bachelor’s and master’s examinations at the CNSM of Paris.
Actively involved in the musical life of Toulouse, he collaborates with musicians of the Capitole (Clés de Saint-Pierre, Franco-Russian Festival, etc.) and with the Toulouse Baroque Ensemble, with whom he performs Bach concertos. He has appeared at the Halle aux Grains under the direction of Serge Krichewsky in Aimé Kunc’s Fantaisie for Piano and Orchestra, and performs regularly in the chamber music season at the Auditorium Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines and the Halle aux Grains.
In 2016, he recorded a disc devoted to Beethoven’s sonatas. Frequently praised by critics for his “fine and refined playing, of rare elegance,” his recordings are broadcast on France Musique. Since 2019, he has also been a piano professor at the Pôle Supérieur of Toulouse (ISDAT).
