Hugues began studying music at the age of 6 at the CRR de Rueil-Malmaison, first on piano, then on clarinet in Claire Vergnory’s class. In 1999, he entered the CNSM de Lyon, then the CNSM de Paris, in the classes of Michel Arrignon and Pascal Moraguès. In 2005, he obtained the Diplôme de Formation Supérieure with a 1st prize in clarinet with honors. From 2003 to 2006, he was clarinettist with the Schleswig Holstein Festival Orchester, with whom he played under the batons of the greatest conductors: Kurt Masur, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano and Christoph Eschenbach, who invited him to play chamber music in several “Young Talents” concerts. In 2006, he was principal clarinet with the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester conducted by Claudio Abbado. In 2007, he received an ADAMI grant.
Passionate about theater, Hugues studied acting at the Studio d’Asnieres and then at the Théâtre National de Toulouse. He regularly takes part in productions on major French stages: Théâtre de la Commune, Théâtre National de Toulouse, Theatre de Beaune…
In chamber music, he regularly plays alongside Denis Pascal, the Quatuor Thymos, Christoph Eschenbach, David Fray… He can be heard at festivals such as the Rencontres Musicales de Fontainebleau, Printemps Musical de Silly, Coeur en Musique, at the Opéra de Tours… From 2010 to 2012, he is clarinettist with the Orchestre d’Harmonie des Gardiens de la Paix de Paris. In 2010, he joined the Orchestre Symphonique de Tours as principal clarinet. Passionate about teaching, Hugues has been Professor at the CRR de Rueil-Malmaison. In 2011, he was appointed Professor of Chamber Music and Clarinet at the CRR de Lyon.
